As your ringing improves you will adopt your own style but generally you should aim at achieving a relaxed and graceful style.  Avoid snatching at bells and, of course, make sure you observe the note's length as indicated in the music.  Damping too soon will leave 'holes' in the music and not damping on time will cause discords which will build up over time.
