Fascinating Facts

Facinating Facts - Dr Alan Hartley

We all love handbells, we all enjoy playing them.  But how much do we really know about handbells?  In this talk I will try to give you some information that you may not know about handbells, handbell ringing and the instrument we play.  Maybe there will be some facts that you can use when introducing concerts.  All the information presented is in the public domain – it just takes time to find it!

For example, what is the connection between the handbell, a duck, a fire and a bed?  When was the first music written for handbells?  How many different formats can you use to produce music on handbells?  How did handbells travel around the world?  Have any of you played in front of a crowd of 10,000 people?

In this presentation Alan Hartley explores the rich past of our hobby; the accompanying text may be downloaded from the pdf file link.
